Valentine's commissions
So here's what's kept me busy throughout February!
I had a bunch of Valentine's commissions from lots of lovely people to do...I first blogged about them here.
I've put a few of them below for you all to see ^_^ (click on the to make them bigger)
I can do commissions like this for any occasion: birthdays, anniversaries, mothers day, fathers day, Christmas etc. All you have to do is email me and we'll go from there :)
My email is: rachael@rachaelsmith.org
With this last one, I had some really lovely feedback from both Katy, who commissioned the piece, and Steve, who was given it for Valentine's Day. They kindly agreed to me putting it on the blog:
Katy:
It was so easy to come up with ideas for the pictures, and I was so pleased at their likeness to the vision I had described to Rachael! She kept me informed all the way through the process and I felt able to ask for things to be changed when I wanted them to be. Arrived on time and I couldn't wait to present it to my boyfriend on valentines!
Steve:
My girlfriend commissioned Rachael to design a comic strip for me for Valentine's Day, and I was absolutely astonished at the quality of it. Absolutely beautiful work that really captured our relationship. The scenes looked completely heart warmingly familiar, and being a bit of a comic book fan my inner geek was definitely afforded a nerdgasm or two! I am incredibly grateful for such a thoughtfully drawn and considerately designed gift.

How lovely is that?? :)
Here's a couple of photos of the framing and packaging of the prints.
Apologies for the terrible photos (I'm a cartoonist, not a photographer ^_^;;)
So what are you waiting for?
You could have your very own comic like the ones above for £75(+ postage).
Email me at rachael@rachaelsmith.org for details on how to get yours :)
Please allow at least 3 weeks between emailing and the date you'd like it for.
Thanks, and big loves,
Rachael xxx

Original 'Her Name Is Calla' ink drawings
Hey guys,
So in preparation for my comic book launch for my new comic 'The Way We Write' (which stars three of the members of the band 'Her Name Is Calla'...I've been making these little original ink drawings.
I'll be selling these at the launch party - which is at the Cookie Jar, Leicester on the 16th March (there's a Facebook event here) and if there's any left over I'll stick them on my Etsy shop
Anyway, I've done quite a few of them! So I thought I'd show off the whole jolly lot!
Click on the images if you want to make them bigger.
Hope to see some of you at the launch party!
Also, my friend Andrew was kind enough to send me this photo of my 'The Way We Write' comics peeking out from a display in 'Travelling Man' (a comic shop) in Manchester:
I like how cheeky Adam looks, tee hee!

Fragments poster #1
Hey guys,
Here's a poster I did for Nathan Human's theatre piece, 'Fragments'.
Unfortunately this one isn't going to get used, so I thought I'd share it with you guys :)
Watch this space for the actual poster, as well as more details about this awesome project.
The Summer Child storyboards
So last month I had the honour of working up some storyboards for a new film 'The Summer Child', which is based on a book by Tove Janssen (creator of the Moomins) and will be directed by Esther Richardson.
I've only done the storyboards for one of the scenes so far, hopefully I'll get to do more :)
Click on the images to read the dialogue.
Here's how Esther and co. presented the scene to some folk who will hopefully be funding the project:
And here's one of the rough, scribbly drafts:
And here's a drawing I did of a Moomin. Because Moomins!

Hourly Comix 2013
Whew! Just finished my first hourly comic day!
It's a bit scribbly, but I'm proud that I've done it, especially as today was a workday (boo!)
Hope you enjoy it :)
Thank you to Adam for (sort of) spending a Friday night at mine, watching rubbish telly while I drew ^__^
